Web Hosting Problems

Why is it so important to find a reputable host and not to sign up with the hosting provider that only seems to be everything you wish?

The answer to this question could be reduced to a single word: problems. Hosting your site with unreliable provider will lead to tedious and nerves consuming problems that will often remain unsolved. Here are some real life examples of problems customers are experiencing with their providers:

  • "After signing up for their hosting package I haven't heard from them for days. I've been waiting for them to send me a welcome message so I could start using my account. Day after day after day and I became more and more nervous. I sent an Email asking them to explain what the status of my account was but there was no answer. 14 days after signing up I decided to move on and to find another host. I signed up for a new host but then 22 days after signing up with the first host I received a welcome message from them stating my account has been activated and my credit card billed. I contacted them explaining I decided not to have an account with them and asking them for a refund. Needless to say, again I haven't heard from them for days and when I finally got in touch with them they were beating around the bush and more days passed. To make it short, I did get my money back in the end but all the experience with them took so much of my time and health that it made me regret I ever bumped into their hosting offer."

  • "I agreed them to register my domain name. I specifically asked them to register domain in my own name. I got my account and published my site. I even made some money with it. It was not before a year had passed I found out that my domain name wasn't exactly mine. Even though we agreed that domain should be registered in my name this host did not act accordingly. The result was I had a site with the name that I didn't own so I haven't been able to sell that name and I must say I lost some good money because of it. The domain was unfortunately taken over by someone else. This host deceived me, don' allow him to deceive you."

  • "Their setup of our account was complicated and a real pain. Once our account has finally been activated there were several times we couldn't get into our account using FTP. Also their server is really slow at downloading speed, pages show very slow. This was time consuming hosting service so we moved to another host. Now we have better service for less money."

  • "Downtime caused by server or network problems occurs at least once a week. I lose money every time my site goes down and they seem not interested in the problem I have. They behave like it's only my problem. When they finally find a solution they don't notify you of what happened. In fact they rarely notify you of anything."

  • "I have Email issues all the time. It just isn't working. It gets delayed, sometimes it doesn't get delivered at all. I do not receive all of my emails. I've had people contact me and ask why I have not responded to their last email and I don't have any clue they ever sent it. Once my Email box was even deleted with no reason or explanation. It simply disappeared. Many times I can't log into my accounts. Their mail sever is a mess. You can forget about building your opt-in list with this host"

  • "They constantly complain about CPU minutes, each account is allowed no more than 60 CPU minutes in a day. My web site does perhaps 20-25 GB of bandwidth a month out of the 120 I'm allowed but they come out of nowhere with: your site is using more than 60CPU minutes a day.?!?"

  • "I've been through all kinds of problems with this company, from the sever being hacked, miserable customer service, inappropriate tech support, downtime, billing problems to all data being lost. Do yourself a favor and avoid hosting with them at all cost."

  • "Even though I cancelled my account with them I'm still being billed for the next year."

  • "When I first started with this company things were pretty good. Everything was in it's place. But then after a year I renewed my account only to find a surprise on my credit card statement showing they double billed my card. I contacted them asking for an explanation. They stated that I had to pay some over usage and upgrade features and that this was the reason of additional billing of my credit card. I never received any Email that would indicate my credit card would be additionally charged. I checked everything twice and I'm pretty confident that no upgrade or over usage ever took place. I asked for a refund but nothing has been refunded so far."

  • "They are pressing me all the time to upgrade this and upgrade that but the truth is I don't really need it. I don't like being pushed this way. They're just trying to convince me to spend more money and are stubborn to get this done"

  • "Their support insisted that the site was working fine. This was despite the fact that ANYONE could see clearly that the site was not working, just by clicking on ANY page."

  • "They made some changes on their server I wasn't informed about. When the server job was over I found that over half of my web applications didn't function anymore. It took more than 2 months before complete functionality was established again."

  • "My site and email have been down, 6 times in 3 weeks...the most my web site has been online is 3 days at a time..."

  • "They deleted all data from MySQL database when they upgraded their software. All data was lost."

  • "On Friday, May 5 the web site went down. I sent a request to tech support to bring it back up. I got back a response stating that it is a known issue related to a server move. The problem should be resolved within 24 hours - they said. 24 hours had passed but my site was still down. It finally came up after 4 days but not for long. The site was offline once again by upcoming weekend, this time with a 404 error. Never been really informed what the exact reason for the downtime was. I can assure you this happens on a regular basis."

  • "With this company you definitely don't get what you paid for. I wish I had checked better what reliable and honest hosts really were before giving my money to this one. It's been nothing but a disappointment."

  • "Recently my site was attacked and a malicious script put onto it. My site was immediately suspended. I called them, they would instruct me to explain everything in Email, in Email they would ask me to call them. When I called I was advised to use live chat. I've done everything but nothing made my site online. We were playing around like it was a joke. I guess I expected them to be more serious and professional and make my site WORK again."

  • "It was supposed to be managed hosting but this company managed only my money. I ended up doing all the work by myself with scarce support from their side."
